FAA Part 61 • UK Part-FCL • iPhone

Know you’re current, at a glance.

Log4Pilot is one fast, legally faithful logbook for student and GA pilots. Log a flight in seconds, see currency from your own entries, and hand an examiner a proof pack — without reconstruction.

Local-first privacy: no account, no developer server, no tracking. Your logbook stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud Drive. Formats designed to match FAA, EASA and UK CAA layouts — never “approved”. Informational computations, never “legal to fly”.

The core loop

Log → Am I current? → Prove it.

One person, one install, one primary device. No crew rostering, no back-office, no messaging. Just a quiet, exact record that shows its working — every figure drills to the entries that produced it, including near-misses excluded with reasons.

01 Log in seconds

Shutdown to saved in under 30 seconds

Last aircraft, route and role pre-filled. Quick chips (Now −30m), day/night split suggested from instants + coordinates for you to confirm, four landing counts, approaches, signatures. Duplicate-last-flight in one tap.

— Raw facts only, never derived
02 Know at a glance

Currency per profile, with evidence

Today cards for §61.57 day / night / instrument / flight review, FCL.060 passengers + night, SEP revalidation progress, medical alerts. Each states rule + bundle version and the entries that prove it.

— Informational, never “legal to fly”
03 Prove without panic

One tap, totals that reconcile

FAA logbook, FCL.050 12-group logbook, UK CAA submission + signed certification page, 8710 worksheet, endorsements, raw CSV. Integer-minute reconciliation gate blocks export if a page fails to add up.

— Print-ready PDF + CSV bundle

100%Exportable, paid or not

* Jurisdiction profiles at launch: FAA Part 61; UK Part-FCL extending EASA Part-FCL. Profiles form a lineage with overrides; bundles ship with app updates and stay reproducible.

Status is never colour-only: colour + icon + text • AX5-safe • VoiceOver-labelled

Currency & recency engine

Every number shows its working.

Rules are versioned data bundles, not code. FAA §61.57(a) day, §61.57(b) night (full-stop, 1-hour-after-sunset window), §61.57(c) instrument (6 approaches + holding + intercept/track in 6 calendar months), §61.56 flight review — alongside FCL.060(b), SEP revalidation, LAPL recency and medical alerts.

  • ✓Evidence on tap. Contributing entries with qualifying values; excluded near-misses with reasons (“PICUS unsigned”).
  • ✓Gap check before the checkride. Missing types, unsigned records, expired signatory certificates, review/medical within the goal window — with pre-written chase text via share sheet.
  • ✓Quiet and exact. Tabular numerals, no gamification, no streaks. Reduce Motion respected.

Copy rule: “On your entries, you meet §61.57(a) for ASEL until 3 Dec 2026.” Never “you are legal to fly.” First engine use and every report footer carry the full disclaimer.

Flight entry • FSTD • Ground training

Nothing typed twice.

Aircraft, aerodromes and instructors feed every form, endorsement and report. Aircraft classification snapshots onto the entry — later edits never rewrite history silently. All instants UTC; display renders local or decimal hours. Durations are whole minutes; there is no floating-point time math.

⚠ Soft warnings, never silent: implausible duration for route/aircraft, computed vs confirmed night variance, future date, duplicate suspicion, simulated instrument without safety pilot where expected. Hard stops: block-on > block-off, counts ≥ 0.
⎘ History you can defend: freely editable until first proof-pack inclusion — afterwards edits append a revision note. Soft-delete with Undo. Opening balances labelled asserted, lifetime totals only, never currency.

Reports & proof pack

Reports are the product.

Generated on-device. Every figure carries profile + bundle version + window; every page is numbered with pilot name + licence number. Any element can be generated alone — or as a single proof pack (PDF + optional CSV bundle).

R1 FAA logbook

§61.51(b) fields, profile totals with page + cumulative. Cross-country computed under the certificate’s own definition (>50 NM and friends are rule data, not code).

R2 FCL.050 logbook

Front matter, landscape 12 groups, page-totals rows reconciling exactly in every time column, verbatim certification block on every page, countersignatures in remarks.

R3 UK CAA submission

FCL.050 paginated for A4 + personal-details page + one certification page (date, full name, signature, CAA reference) — signed in-app or by hand after printing.

R4 FAA 8710 worksheet

Form 8710-1 Section III-style grid for the selected certificate/rating, every cell drill-downable in-app. Labelled as a transfer worksheet; nothing is submitted.

R5 Endorsements + signatures

AC 61-65-style versioned templates, pre-filled from linked entries, signature images where the profile accepts electronic signing. Gap check flags what an examiner will look for.

R6 Raw CSV — no lock-in

One row per flight / FSTD / ground entry with every stored fact (UTC ISO-8601, integer minutes, four landing counts, countersignature states) + documented column dictionary. Export works paid or not.

Reconciliation gate (hard gate, not a warning): if any page total fails to reconcile in integer minutes, export blocks and names the failing column/page. FSTD appears in FCL group 11 and training-received totals — never in total time of flight. Generated files are stored, shareable, deletable, never silently regenerated.
Honest labelling — what Log4Pilot is not
  • Not an EFB — no planning, weather, NOTAMs, navigation, ADS-B or weight & balance. Record-keeping and proof aid only.
  • Not “approved by FAA / EASA / CAA” — authorities accept records; they do not approve apps. Copy says “formats designed to match …”.
  • No filing with any authority — the app prepares worksheets and evidence; submission happens elsewhere.
  • Not legal advice — responsibility remains with the pilot, instructor and examiner (see disclaimer below).

App Privacy: Data Not Collected • No tracking domains • No third-party SDKs

Privacy & data safety

Private by design. Yours forever.

No accounts, analytics, tracking or third-party network SDKs. Optional Face ID / Touch ID app lock. Signature and licence images live on-device and in your own iCloud backup only. Crash diagnostics via Apple opt-in mechanisms only.

  • ✓Automatic backup, visible health. Versioned archive (JSON + blobs + manifest) to the app’s iCloud Drive container. Failure raises a local notification — silent backup failure is release-blocking.
  • ✓Restore with a safety net. Pre-restore snapshot, manifest + totals reconciliation before commit. Manual export any time — regardless of entitlement.
  • ✓Pay once, keep everything. Entitlement gates new entries beyond the free allowance only. Viewing, searching, exporting, reporting and restoring are never gated.

How it works

From shutdown to proof pack.

Built offline-first in SwiftUI for iOS 17+ (iPhone-first). Pure-function projection + currency engines over value-type snapshots — deterministic and fixture-tested. PDF via on-device renderer; CSV via hand-rolled, escape-tested writer.

Seed once

Directories + balances

Add aircraft, aerodromes (built-in GA gazetteer + your strips), instructors. Import past flying via generic CSV mapping or asserted opening balances — labelled, lifetime-only, never currency.

Fly + log

30 seconds a flight

Quick-log from Today. Local notifications for currency, medical, pending countersignatures and backup health — requested in context, never for marketing.

Hand over

Proof, not promises

Generate the pack an examiner expects — cover with profiles + rule versions + timestamp + disclaimer, evidence lists, signed pages. If it doesn’t reconcile, it doesn’t export.

Regulatory disclaimer (verbatim — also in-app and on every report footer)

“Log4Pilot computes currency and totals from your own entries using published rules. It is not legal advice and does not replace your logbook responsibilities or an instructor’s or examiner’s judgement.”
