A large session timer on Today. Start time is persisted before anything changes on screen, so elapsed time survives backgrounding, lock, termination and relaunch. Then attach topics, photos and a note.
No pause • no silent lossEvery subject gets required-topic checklists (27 subjects, 618 topics) plus your own custom topics. Confidence is tapped by you — not started, learning, confident — and option picks are handled as picks, never a flat list.
Tracked by parent, not a gradeThe learning record and LA-ready portfolio are by-products of normal daily use. Pick a child and date range, toggle sections, preview the PDF and share through the system share sheet.
You stay in controlGuided and self-planned subjects are visibly different in the app. A self-planned subject never implies curriculum coverage it does not have.

Session timer + timetable
No navigation, no form, no decisions when learning starts. The timer is the source of truth — absolute start and end dates — so the duration survives anything iOS does to the app. Today also shows the week’s schedule and recent sessions, so evidence builds itself as you log.

Subjects & progress
Create profiles for multiple children, define any number of subjects, and see hours, coverage and confidence per child. Attendance and hours are derived from the sessions you actually logged — half-open ranges, no double counting.
Guided path #1
Ordered, exam-board-tagged topics (Edexcel, AQA, OCR) with summaries, worked examples as numbered steps, and understanding checks that are question-first: reveal the answer, then record correct, incorrect or skipped. Resumes where your child left off — and a parent who prefers their own approach can ignore the path and use Maths as a self-planned subject.
Boards ⊆ {Edexcel, AQA, OCR}. Content is data, not code — pluggable, so subject #2 can be added later without rework. Content upgrades never delete topics that have sessions, attempts or mastery.
Records & portfolio
Choose a child and date range, toggle what goes in, preview the A4 portfolio side-by-side on iPad, then share through the system share sheet. Hours, coverage, work samples and session notes — generated from an immutable snapshot, so the screen, the PDF and the numbers can’t diverge.
Footer on every page: “Parent-recorded home-education log. Generated from the parent’s own records. This is not an assessment by any awarding body or local authority.” No grades, predictions or assessments — ever.
Privacy
Records stay private unless you export them. HomeLesson has no account and no cloud service and does not automatically send information to anyone. No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no network calls. Everything works in Airplane Mode.
