Privacy Policy

Your records stay with you.

Log4Paw is a local-first iPhone app for logging dog seizures. This policy explains what data Log4Paw processes, where it is stored, and your choices. It is intended for App Store review and for users.

Summary

Log4Paw does not require a Log4Paw account and does not operate a central server that stores your pet-health records. Your logbook — events, medications, caregivers, questions and attached media — is stored on your iPhone. There is no analytics, advertising, tracking or network service layer. Information leaves your device only when you tap Export or Share. This summary does not replace the details below.

Medical limitation

Owner-recorded observations. This report does not provide diagnosis or treatment advice.

Log4Paw is a recording and reminder tool. It does not diagnose seizures, calculate doses, recommend treatment changes, or replace veterinary care. Record what you saw; your veterinary team interprets it.

1. Who we are

Log4Paw is published by M-PAX Group. For privacy enquiries, contact [email protected].

Placeholder: replace with legal entity name and postal address before final publication if required for your jurisdiction.

2. Overview & scope

This policy describes how Log4Paw handles information when you use the iOS app and when you visit this website. The app is local-first: all core features — timer, event records, medication schedules and reminders, trends, reports, care plans, backup — work without a Log4Paw backend and without a network connection, including in Airplane Mode.

We do not make claims such as “nothing ever leaves your device” without qualification. Records stay on your iPhone except when you choose to export or share them — at that point a copy is sent wherever you choose (e.g. Files, Mail, AirDrop, your vet). That moment is disclosed in the app (“Sharing sends a copy outside this iPhone”) and in §9 below. The in-app About & privacy screen should always be treated as the authoritative description for the shipped build.

3. Information Log4Paw processes

Log4Paw processes the following only to provide the features you choose to use. All of it is stored on your device (§6):

CategoryExamplesPurpose
Pet profilesName, species (dog), birth date or approximate age, vet / clinic details, photoIdentify whose records you are viewing; include in reports you generate
Seizure eventsStart / end times, duration, observations, context, recovery, notes, rescue-medication text, vet questionsBuild your logbook; show history, trends and reports
MedicationRegimen names, owner-entered dose text, schedules, confirmations (Taken / Late / Skipped), estimated remainingShow due doses; schedule local reminders; summarise confirmations
Care dataCaregiver labels, emergency plan text you enter, clinic / emergency phone numbersAttribute entries; display the plan your vet supplied
Media attachmentsEvent photos / videos you attach, filenames, sizes, hashesKeep visual records alongside events; list in reports
App dataPreferences (e.g. appearance), active pet, backup-nudge stateRemember your settings

Log4Paw does not collect analytics, identifiers for advertising, location history, contacts, or health data from any other app or device. There is no account profile, no social graph and no advertising profile.

4. Photos & videos

Attaching media is optional. When you choose a photo or video, Log4Paw uses the system photo picker (PhotosPicker / PHPicker) to import a copy into its private sandbox (Application Support/Media/) with iOS file protection. Only metadata (filename, type, size, SHA-256 hash) is stored in the database; the bytes live as protected files.

Videos are listed by date and filename in reports; they are never embedded in PDFs.

5. Notifications

Medication reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device — they work without a backend and in Airplane Mode once scheduled.

6. On-device storage & offline operation

Your logbook is stored locally on your iPhone using SwiftData (structured records) and protected app storage (media). No Log4Paw backend is required for any core feature. If you delete the app without exporting a backup, your records and attached media may be lost — the app tells you this during onboarding and in Settings, and nudges you to back up after your first saved record.

Backups are files you create: a JSON envelope (com.log4paw.backup, schema v1) with stable IDs and relationship IDs, optionally with a staged media directory (“Export with media”). A structured-only export is always labelled as such before export. Imports are validated before anything is written; Replace requires typing REPLACE and creates a verified safety backup first.

7. No account required

Log4Paw does not require you to create a Log4Paw account or social profile. There is no Log4Paw-hosted profile containing your pet-health history. Caregivers are local labels on one iPhone used for attribution — anyone else can only see data if you send them an exported file.

8. Third-party services & Apple frameworks

Apple platform services

Log4Paw uses Apple frameworks only: SwiftUI, SwiftData, ActivityKit / WidgetKit (Live Activity), UserNotifications, Charts, PhotosUI / PHPicker, AVKit, PDFKit / QuickLook, CryptoKit. Their use is subject to Apple’s privacy policy and your device settings. No Firebase, Supabase, analytics, ads, remote fonts or third-party health SDKs are included, and the app contains no network service layer by construction.

No place-data or map providers

Unlike map-based apps, Log4Paw performs no place lookup and sends no coordinates to any provider. There is no map tile loading and no location tracking.

Websites you choose to open

This website and any links you tap (e.g. Apple support articles) are governed by their own policies. Exported files you send via Mail, Messages, AirDrop or Files are governed by those services and recipients.

9. Data sharing — only when you tap Share

We do not sell your pet-health records, photos or videos to third parties and we do not build advertising profiles from them.

We share data only as follows:

App Store Connect privacy details: Data collected — none. No analytics, identifiers, tracking domains or network calls. The privacy manifest declares UserDefaults, file-timestamp and system-boot-time API reasons only.

10. Retention & deletion

Your logbook is retained on your device until you delete it:

We cannot delete copies you already shared (e.g. a PDF you emailed to your clinic). Have the final wording reviewed against the shipped build before publication.

Where UK GDPR / EU GDPR applies, we process on-device logbook data to perform the contract (provide the app you requested) and on the basis of your consent where you grant optional permissions (Notifications, Camera). You may withdraw consent by changing the permission in iOS Settings; this does not affect prior processing. Because processing is local, withdrawing consent simply disables the dependent feature.

12. Children

Log4Paw does not knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising or profiling, does not use data for ads, and contains no social or messaging features. If a child uses the app on a family device, the same local-first protections apply. Guardians should use Apple’s Screen Time and Family Sharing controls. Ensure the App Store age rating is appropriate and have this section legally reviewed.

13. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your information, and to object or withdraw consent. Because your logbook is on your device, you can directly access, correct, export and delete it in the app (Pets, Events, Medication, Backup & restore, Settings). To exercise other rights, contact [email protected].

UK users may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

14. Security

We design Log4Paw to minimise collection and keep processing on-device: SwiftData + iOS Data Protection for stored files, OS-controlled permissions requested in context, Apple platform security, and no network attack surface. No method is 100% secure, so we avoid claims such as “100% secure” and instead describe these actual measures. The app never logs your health details, notes, clinic information or filenames.

15. Medical limitation

Log4Paw is a recording and reminder tool. It does not diagnose seizures, calculate doses, recommend treatment changes, claim a context caused an event, or replace veterinary care. Observation options (e.g. “whole-body stiffening”, intensity “mild / moderate / severe / not sure”) are your own observations, not clinical grades. Context entries are what was happening around the event — never a proven cause. The emergency plan screen only displays the plan supplied by your veterinary team and never generates thresholds or administration instructions.

This limitation appears in onboarding, the emergency-plan editor, report footers and About — and in App Store metadata and screenshots, which match the actual local-only behaviour.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect app changes or legal requirements. The “Effective” date at the top will be updated and, where appropriate, we will note changes in release notes or in-app.
